FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions. We have tried to think of questions you might ask and answer them for you. If there are any questions you have, that we have not covered, please send them to us. Q. How did you get started with pedal car racing?A. Our Guider's husband saw a pedal car for sale. He remembered seeing scouts racing them many years ago. He bought the car and asked the Guides if they would like to enter the Leicester race. One of the Guides said that they were as good as scouts and if they could race pedal cars then so could the Guides. And so it was settled, Barlestone Guiding would enter the Leicester race. Q. What sort of people race? A. ANYONE! There are many teams, including Adults, Individuals, Venture Scouts, Scouts and even another Guide Team called the Pink Ladies. Q. How fast does it go? A. It depends on the track and the person riding it, but around Mallory Park we average around 12 MPH Q. What is it made of ? A. Flocky is made from Steel and parts from old bikes. Karbyk, which we borrowed for the last race is made mainly from Aluminium. Our new cars will be made from a number of different materials. Have a look at our whats new page for advanced information. Q. What format do the races take ? A. The British Pedal Car Championship is made up from a number of different type of races. These include a 100 mile race, a 24 hour endurance race and sprint races. Q. How many people are in a team. A. It depends on the classification. We race in PC2 and PC3 so we have 6 plus a reserve in each team. For more details have a look at the BPCC website. Q. How much practice do you do ? A. We try to practice once a week during the racing season. Due to other commitments and weather, this is not always possible. We are also dependant on being able to find suitable practice venues. Q. Is it hard Work ? A. What do you think ? Q. How long has pedal car racing been going ? A. As far as we are aware, the first pedal car race was held in 1939 Q. Do you have to have any special equipment ? A. We always wear cycling helmets, arm pads and gloves Q. Do you have many crashes ? A. Sometimes, we had a few at the Leicester Race together with a tyre blow-out so loud half of leicester heard it Q. Do you enjoy it ? A. You Bet! Q. How much does it cost and how do you afford it? A. As well as the cost of building and repairing the cars, it costs us £10-15 per car entry fee for each race. We also wear out tyres on a regular basis and need to provide refreshments to the racers. We are fortunate to have some firms and individuals that have supported us so far, together with the support of the girls parents. You can see some of our sponsors on our links page. This season we are hoping to enter more races, and with two new cars to complete we are in need of more sponsors.
